On Tuesday, May 10, 2011 PPRA will induct Matthew Cabrey into the Philadelphia Public Relations Association Hall of Fame. Please join us as we honor Matt at a special event you will not want to miss! About Matthew Cabrey: As part of the corporate communications team at Shire Pharmaceuticals, Matt is responsible for helping to create and reinforce the corporate image in the greater Philadelphia region, North America, and internationally of this global specialty biopharmaceutical company. His work focuses on internal and external communications activities as well as specific support of Shire’s Specialty Pharmaceuticals businesses. Based at Shire’s Wayne, Pennsylvania offices, Matt works with Shire’s global team on various issues including media relations, crisis communications, community relations, internal communications, and special projects. Prior to joining Shire in July 2004, Matt served as a vice president of corporate communications for The PNC Financial Services Group in Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. At PNC, Matt managed media relations, sponsorships and executive speech writing activities, and supported a variety of internal communication projects. Matt joined PNC in January of 2000 after working for more than two years as manager of media relations for Keystone Mercy Health Plan, the largest HMO serving medical assistance recipients in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He began his post with Keystone Mercy in January of 1998 after a seven year career with the Philadelphia chapter of the American Red Cross where he held a variety of marketing and communications positions, including director of public relations. Matt began his professional career in radio as a reporter, editor and producer at radio stations in Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, including the former WCAU Talkradio 1210, the former WWDB-FM 96.5, and the former WWOC-FM 94.3. He has produced a variety of talk shows and sporting events, including Philadelphia Phillies baseball games, Major League Baseball on the CBS Radio Network, the Frank Talk with Frank Rizzo program, the Speaking of Your Money program with Harry Gross, and the Dominic Quinn Show among many others. Matt is a board member of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia, is a member, past chairman and past president of the Philadelphia Public Relations Association, and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). He chairs the communications committee for Pennsylvania Bio, the life sciences trade organization, and serves as a member of 3ci, a unique, forward-looking team of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. With his Shire team, Matt received a 2010 PR Week Award in the Employee Communications Campaign of the Year category, and is a six-time recipient of the Pepperpot Award presented by the Philadelphia chapter of PRSA to recognize outstanding performance in public relations. He is the recipient of two Shire CEO Awards, the highest employee honor recognizing significant contributions to the organization. He volunteers regularly as an emcee, supporting various philanthropic events, and has volunteered with the Lionville Youth Association as a little league baseball coach, is past president of the Home and School Association of the Lionville Elementary School, and served as a reading coach with the Philadelphia Reads program. A graduate of Penn State University, Matt earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism with a minor in sociology. A proud native of Philadelphia’s Overbrook neighborhood, Matt lives in Chester County, PA with his wife and three children.
