Career Boom: Job Security in an Aging Society presented by GenPhilly

Wednesday, April 13 2011 5:30pm - 7:30pm Eastern Time Presented by:

Did you know that Philadelphia has the highest proportion of people over 60 out of the ten largest cities in the United States? Given that number, isn’t it surprising that more organizations and businesses are not addressing the needs of our aging population?

From community development, to the arts, housing, city planning, and more, each profession has the opportunity to touch the lives of older people and help our city become a lifelong community.

Join GenPhilly to learn from our members about organizations that incorporate seniors into their programs, policy, and planning.  Be a part of a discussion on how you can include the needs of the older population into your current position, and if you already do, meet a group that can provide a support network for you. Come early to enjoy pizza and visit booths to learn about potential internships, career paths and career options.

Key Note Speaker: Lydia Hernández Vélez, Deputy Managing Director for Aging, City of Philadelphia; Five 5-Minute Lightning Talks by GenPhilly Members: Kimiko Doherty – Architect, Manager of Community Development, Archdiocese of Philadelphia; Clint Randall – Urban Planner, Healthy Communities Coordinator, Philadelphia Planning Commission; Kendra Lawton – Arts Administrator, Director of Programs & Planning, Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance; Candice Thompson – Social Services, Director of Center Services, William Way LGBT Community Center; Jill Chonody - Social Work, Assistant Professor of Social Work, Temple University
